NetCrunch Tools is a free set of network diagnostic utilities for Windows administrators, made by AdRem Software, the company behind the NetCrunch monitoring platform. The main piece, now called NetCrunch Admin Toolset, puts 12 everyday tools in one window: ping and service scanners, an open port scanner, an SNMP scanner, traceroute, Wake on LAN, DNS and Whois lookups, a DNS audit, a MAC address resolver and a subnet calculator. If you searched for a NetCrunch Tools download, this is the package you want.

AdRem offers the tools as freeware under its own EULA, mainly as add-ons for customers of the paid NetCrunch monitoring product, so support is limited. Alongside the Admin Toolset there are separate free utilities: WMI Tester, WMI Tools (a WMI browser), Syslog Tester, SNMP MIB Walker and NetCrunch Sizer.

Best forQuick subnet sweeps, port and SNMP checks, and DNS troubleshooting from a Windows admin workstation

What it does

  • Ping Scanner sweeps an IP range and shows which hosts answer, with response times.
  • Network Services Scanner checks which network services respond on a range of hosts.
  • TCP Open Port Scanner lists open TCP ports on a host or range.
  • SNMP Scanner finds SNMP-enabled devices and reads their basic information with the community string you supply.
  • Ping, Traceroute, DNS Info and Whois cover single-host troubleshooting without switching to the command line.
  • Wake on LAN sends magic packets to power on machines before patching or remote support.
  • DNS Audit, MAC Address Resolver and Subnet Calculator help clean up DNS records, map IPs to hardware addresses and plan address ranges.
  • Separate free tools test WMI connectivity and queries, browse WMI remotely, send test syslog messages and walk SNMP MIB trees.

How sysadmins use it

Inventory a subnet before a change

  1. Open the Admin Toolset and start the Ping Scanner.
  2. Enter the range, for example 192.168.10.1 to 192.168.10.254, and run the scan.
  3. Follow up with the Network Services Scanner on the same range to see which services each host exposes.
  4. Keep the result as your “before” snapshot and rerun it after the change to spot missing hosts.

Find SNMP devices and check community strings

  1. Start the SNMP Scanner and enter the management subnet.
  2. Supply the read community you expect (and, if you are auditing, try the default public to find devices that still use it).
  3. Devices that answer show their system name and description, which quickly identifies switches, printers and UPS cards.
  4. Use SNMP MIB Walker on a single device when you need the full OID tree, for example before adding it to a monitoring system.

Troubleshoot DNS and reverse lookups

  1. Use DNS Info to query records for a name and check the answer from a specific server.
  2. Run DNS Audit on a range to find IP addresses whose forward and reverse records do not match, a common cause of mail and Kerberos problems.
  3. Fix the records on the DNS server, then rerun the audit.

Test WMI before adding Windows servers to monitoring

  1. Open WMI Tester and connect to the target server with the monitoring account.
  2. Run a simple query such as:
    SELECT Caption, Version FROM Win32_OperatingSystem
  3. If it fails, check the Windows Firewall rules for WMI and DCOM on the target, and the account’s permissions. You can enable the built-in rule group with:
Enable-NetFirewallRule -DisplayGroup "Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)"

Install and first run

The Admin Toolset requires Windows 10 x64 or later; 32-bit Windows and older versions are not supported. It runs on the AdRem Application Engine, a Chromium-based runtime that the installer downloads automatically if it is missing, so the first install needs internet access. Install with admin rights.

Scanning tools send ICMP, TCP and SNMP (UDP 161) traffic across your network. Endpoint firewalls may block ping, so a host that does not answer is not necessarily down; combine the Ping Scanner with the port scanner. Tell your security team before scanning, because intrusion detection systems will notice port sweeps. Be careful where you get the software: AdRem distributes it itself, and “unlocked NetCrunch” repositories found on GitHub and elsewhere are malware lures, not official builds.

Limitations

  • Windows 10/11 x64 only.
  • No published version numbers or changelog, which makes it hard to know whether you have the latest build.
  • Freeware with minimal support; it exists mainly as a companion to the paid NetCrunch platform.
  • These are on-demand tools, not monitoring: no scheduled checks, history or alerts.
  • The Chromium-based engine makes the package much larger than classic single-purpose utilities.

NetCrunch Tools vs alternatives

For a simple subnet sweep with shared folder and RDP shortcuts, Advanced IP Scanner is lighter and needs no extra runtime. Angry IP Scanner is open source and cross-platform, useful if you also work on Linux or macOS. NetCrunch Tools wins when you want SNMP scanning, DNS audit, Wake on LAN and a subnet calculator in the same window. If you need continuous monitoring with a network map, look at LANState.

FAQ

Is NetCrunch Tools free?

Yes. AdRem provides NetCrunch Tools as freeware, mainly as add-ons for its NetCrunch monitoring platform, with limited support.

What is NetCrunch Admin Toolset?

It is the current name of the main NetCrunch Tools package: 12 network tools, including ping, port and SNMP scanners, traceroute, DNS tools, Wake on LAN and a subnet calculator.

What is the latest NetCrunch Tools version?

AdRem does not publish a version number or release date for the toolset. The current package is referred to as NetCrunch Tools 2.

Does NetCrunch Tools include an SNMP scanner?

Yes. The Admin Toolset includes an SNMP Scanner, and SNMP MIB Walker is available as a separate free tool.

Does NetCrunch Tools run on Windows 7 or 32-bit Windows?

No. The official requirement is Windows 10 x64 or later.

Where do I download NetCrunch Tools safely?

Use the Download button on this page. Avoid “cracked” or “unlocked” NetCrunch downloads from code-sharing sites; they are known malware lures.
